Sydney: thousands breakfast on Harbour Bridge

Dunya News

What is normally a busy six lane expressway in Sydney became a haven for picnickers on Sunday morning, with six thousand people eating breakfast together on Sydney Harbour Bridge. The huge Breakfast on the Bridge began on a beautiful morning on Sydney Harbour as people ate from their food hampers and grazed on fresh bread, apples and jam that were handed out. The crowd was entertained by musicians, including accordion and trumpet players, as well as a pen full of cows, which added to the bridge's picnic atmosphere. The Sydney Harbour Bridge was closed to traffic and laid with over 10,000 square metres of grass turf for the event which kick-started the city's month long Crave Sydney Festival, which showcases Sydney's wine, food, art and entertainment. Over 190,000 people applied to be part of the breakfast, and organisers are looking to likely make it an annual event, predicted to be worth $10-million Australian dollars ($9.22-million U.S.) to tourism. The bridge was reopened to traffic later on Sunday afternoon after the grass turf was rolled up. At least half the grass turf will be transferred to parkland at Sydney Olympic Park, while the remainder will be sold.
