Venezuelan Stefania Fernandez crowned new Miss Universe
Venezuelan Stefania Fernandez has been crowned the new Miss Universe after she was selected from among young women from 83 countries. The competition was held in West Indies islands named Bahamas. The official decision was made at the Atlantis Resort by a 12-person judging panel that included Andre Leon Talley, the editor-at-large for American Vogue, actor Dean Cain and supermodel Valeria Mazza. Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela placed the glittering $120,000 crown on 18-year-old Fernandez who looked pretty in a red evening gown. Miss Dominican Republic Ada de la Cruz was crowned the first runner up, while Miss Kosovo Marigona Dragusha was declared the second runner up. Contrary to the past traditions, Indian beauty Ekta Chaudhary failed to make room in top 15 beautiful women of the world.
