Argentina's top designers presented their Spring and Summer collections at La Rural in Buenos Aires for Buenos Aires Fashion Week. The exotic aromas and colors of citric and bitter cooking spices inspired Mariana Dappiano's collection, one of the first on the catwalk at three-day event. Bright, print summer dresses and skirts dominated the look, but a final contrast of beige and dramatic, angular fabric cuts added depth to the collection. Dappiano said she liked to work with designs that reminded her of the flavors she cooks with. The collection is based on flowers, plants and species that I like to use for cooking. So there is a mix of cardamom, coffee beans, caper flower, bergamot orange, jojoba, the palette of colors from the paprika, mustard and the idea is that each of the designs that our collection is characterized by is a kind of combination of these tastes and colors; an acidic, a deep [taste] like brown, a mahogany, Dappiano said. Cloth hats shaped like paper sailing boats threw in a touch of fun.
