The CCPO said statements of the SHO and other officials of the Gharbi Police Station are recorded.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Abbas Ahsan Monday told that the postmortem report of the student, who died under police custody, is yet to come.

The CCPO said that statements of the SHO and other officials of the Gharbi Police Station – where the seventh grader mysteriously died – have been recorded by the investigation team.

Abbas Ahsan further added that a detailed report will be forwarded in writing to the Central Police Office and footages of the CCTV cameras will be handed over to the judicial complex. The investigation team checked complete record of the Gharbi Police Station, he said.

It is pertinent here to mention that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan earlier took strict notice of the mysterious death of a seventh grade student in police custody.

In a statement, the chief minister had directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to conduct an impartial investigation into the incident and submit a report to him.

Police had arrested seventh class student, Shahzeb, from Warsak Road when he failed to produce any identification documents after a fight in the bazaar and was detained at the Gharbi Police Station.

However, Shahzeb was later found dead in mysterious circumstances in police custody.

Upon the news of Shahzeb’s death, a large number of his family members and locals reached the police station and protested against the incident. Student Shahzeb’s father alleged that his son was tortured to death.

According to police officials, CCTV footage of the boy’s suicide is available, while an FIR had been registered against the police personnel, including the SHO, and they had been arrested.

Chief Minister said that no one was above the law and strict legal action would be taken against those responsible for the death of the student after conducting an inquiry.

He said that exemplary punishment would be given if police personnel were involved in the incident, adding justice would be provided to victim’s family.

Special Assistant to Chief Minister, Kamran Bangash said that the chief minister had ordered a judicial inquiry into the tragic incident that took place at the Gharbi Police Station.

He said that the chief minister was monitoring the entire incident himself.
