Two-member PHC bench took up plea and issued notices to relevant parties

PESHAWAR (Web Desk) – Peshawar High Court has issued notices to the relevant parties on a plea against advertisement of gambling companies in Pakistan Super League’s (PSL’s) eighth edition.

A petition had been filed against advertisement of gambling companies in the Peshawar High Court. A two-member bench comprising Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan and Justice Waqar Ahmad took the plea and issued notices to the relevant parties.

Petitioner’s counsel Saifullah Kakakhail said gambling was prohibited in the country but despite that fact, the PSL was sponsored by gambling companies. He added that mobile apps and websites of the betting companies were functional.

He argued that advertisement of gambling companies was unlawful and should be banned. On this the PHC, while issuing notices to both parties, ordered them to submit their reply on next hearing date.
