Faheem’s fiery innings helped United to complete second-highest chase in PSL history

RAWALPINDI (Web Desk) – Faheem Ashraf’s 26-ball 51 and Shadab Khan’s all-round performance stormed Islamabad United to two-wicket victory against Multan Sultans in the 24th match of the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Pindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

ISLAMABAD UNITED’S INNINGS

Chasing a target of 206, the United sweep past the Sultans, scoring 209-8 with one ball to spare.

Skipper Shadab Khan looked belligerent for his 25-ball 44, clobbering three fours and three sixes.

This was not the first time in the tournament that Colin Munro showed significant resistance. He scored 38-ball 40, smacking four boundaries and three sixes.

It was Munro, who along with skipper Shadab played anchoring role to take their team out of the doldrums, forming a partnership of 30-ball 59.

Colin Munro was befuddled by Usama Mir, while Ihsanullah, who was in sublime form in the marquee tournament, outplayed Shadab Khan.

Faheem Ashraf raced away to 51 off 26, clubbing five boundaries and two maximums.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz looked brilliant for his 14-ball 25, hammering five boundaries. Mohammad Wasim smashed one boundary and a towering six in 7 balls to score 16.

Alex Hales (1), Azam Khan (3), Asif Ali (8), Mubasir Khan (5) and Rumman Raees failed to show any significant resistance.

Anwar Ali was outstanding with the bowl for the Sultans, bagging three wickets and conceded 33.

Inhsanullah (2-35) and Usama Mir (2-38) picked two wickets apiece.

Abbas Afridi took a scalp, but was expensive, conceding 44.

Mohammad Ilyas was the most expensive of all the Sultans’ bowlers. He gave away 55 and remained wicketless.

MULTAN SULTANS' INNINGS

After put in to bat, Shan Masood’s blistering 75-ball 50 and Tim David’s blazing 27-ball 60 powered Multan Sultans to 205-5 against Islamabad United in the marquee tournament. Sultans’ skipper Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood stitched a partnership of 37-ball 57.

Mohammad Rizwan was undone by United skipper Shadab Khan. Rizwan scored 18-ball 33, smashing one boundary and three sixes.

Shan Masood and Tim David combined for a blistering partnership. The partnership had flown along to 80 off 38 deliveries and paved way for the Sultans to post a formidable target against the home side.

Masood clubbed 12 fours and a sixer in 50 balls to score 75. Tim David clobbered four boundaries and five sixes before he was removed by Mohammad Wasim.

Rilee Rossouw (15), David Miller (11) and Kieron Pollard (1) failed to show any significant resistance.

There was nothing special to talk about the United bowling, with the exception of skipper Shadab Khan, who was outstanding with the bowl and bagged two wickets, conceding merely 26.
Mohammad Wasim also picked up two wickets, but turned out to be quiet expensive, conceding 48.

Faheem Ashraf took a wicket by conceding 38.
