PSL 8: Zalmi bludgeon Kings as Powell, Cadmore shine

Imad Wasim's blistering 57 in vain
RAWALPINDI (Web Desk) – Rovman Powell’s scintillating 34-ball 64 and Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s quickfire unbeaten 45-ball 56 powered Peshawar Zalmi to 24-run victory against Karachi Kings in the 17th match of the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Pindi Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
KARACHI KINGS' INNINGS
Chasing a target of 198, Zalmi’s bowlers restricted the Kings batters to 173-8 in 20 overs. With the exception of skipper Imad Wasim’s unbeaten 30-ball 57 and Matthew Wade’s 41-ball 53, there was nothing special about Kings’ batting.
Adam Rossington and Ben Cutting scored 15 each. Shoaib Malik could only score 3-ball 1 and was puzzled by Aamer Jamal. Irfan Khan was removed by Mujeeb on 6-ball 4.
Aamer Yamin was undone on 5-ball 18 by Aamer Jamal. Tabraiz Shamsi was cleaned up by Aamer Jamal on duck.
Akif Javed remained unbeaten on 7-ball 7.
Azmatullah spearheaded his side by bagging three wickets and mounting pressure on the Kings’ batters from the early stage. Aamer Jamal also took three wickets, but conceded 43 runs in his four overs.
Mujeeb proved his worth again and scooped up two wickets, conceding just 28 runs.
Arshad Iqbal (0-38) and Wahab Riaz (0-36) were wicketless.

PESHAWAR ZALMI'S INNINGS
After sent in to bat, Rovman Powell’s blistering 34-ball 64 and Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s unbeaten 45-ball 56 steered Peshawar Zalmi to 197-5 against Karachi Kings in the marquee tournament.
Zalmi batters Rovman Powell and Tom Kohler-Cadmore were absolutely lethal with the bat. In the last five overs, 73 runs were plundered, powering the Zalmi to the mammoth total.
Tom Kohler-Cadmore was brilliant in terms of finding partnerships. The first one was with Haseebullah Khan. Across 46 balls, 82 runs were plundered by Cadmore and Haseebullah. Haseebullah was brilliant with the bat and scored 29-ball 50, lacing with four boundaries and three towering sixes. Haseebullah was undone by Tabraiz Shamsi.
The next partnership Cadmore formed was with Rovman Powell. The partnership had flown along to 85 off 51 balls.
The other partnership Cadmore formed was with Aamer Jamal. The duo plundered 28 off 9 deliveries.
Mohammad Amir flummoxed Rovman Powell who made his way back to the pavilion after spearheading his side by scoring quickfire 34-ball 64, hitting to the fence for four times and smacking four maximums.
Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who continued to show significant resistance throughout the entire tournament was unbeaten on 45-ball 56, clobbering five fours and three sixes.
It was the resilience that helped the Zalmi to make an incredible recovery over the Kings.
Early on, it was merely Mohammad Amir, who applied the coup de grace against the Zalmi batters, bagging four wickets by bamboozling the top order. Amir befuddled Mohammad Haris (0 off 1), Babar Azam (0 off 3) and Saim Ayub (1 off 3). Amir conceded just 26 runs in his four overs.
Tabraiz Shamsi was also brilliant with the bowl, bagging one wicket by conceding only 25 runs. While, rest of the Kings’ bowlers were wicketless including Aamer Yamin (0-38), Akif Javed (0-58) and skipper Imad Wasim (0-46).

TOSS
Karachi Kings opted to field first against Peshawar Zalmi in the domestic premium tournament.
The Kings had inducted Adam Rossington to the playing XI for the first time after his countryman James Vince was called for national duty.
