Ihsanullah, Usama shine, bagging three wickets apiece

MULTAN (Web Desk) – Rilee Rossouw’s scintillating 36-ball 75 and skipper Mohammad Rizwan’s fiery 42-ball 66 led the Multan Sultans to a 56-run victory over Peshawar Zalmi in the fifth match of the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Multan Cricket Stadium on Friday.

The Sultans' bowlers bundled out the Zalmi for 154. Zalmi began their innings, chasing a massive target of 211, with Mohammad Haris dominating from the start. However, Zalmi’s skipper Babar Azam was removed by Ihsanullah on the 8-ball 9.

Together with Saim Ayub, who was the top scorer for the Zalmi, Mohammad Haris stitched a decent partnership. But things went on to get wrong for the Zalmi after Haris’ dismissal.
Haris made his way back to the pavilion after a quickfire 23-ball 40, hammered four sixes and one four.

Usama Mir removed Saim Ayub on 37-ball 53, studded with three sixes and three fours.

Rovman Powell was looking good for his 12-ball 23, smashed one boundary and two towering sixes.

There was nothing more to talk about Zalmi’s batting. Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who was brilliant in his first outing, dismissed by Usama Mir on 6-ball 3. Neesham could only score 12.

For the Sultans, Usama Mir (3-22) and Ihsanullah (3-24) were outstanding and bagged three wickets apiece. The duo were ably supported by Abbas Afridi (2-33), who grabbed two wickets. Each of Brathwaite (1-22) took a scalp.

Earlier, South African Rilee Rossouw’s whirlwind knock powered Multan Sultans to 210-3 against Peshawar Zalmi.

Sending the Sultans into bat, Zalmi bowlers seemed to be clueless as they managed to pick just three wickets.

Sultans’ skipper Mohammad Rizwan was outstanding for his 42-ball 66, studded with nine boundaries and a six. After his partner Shan Masood was removed by Salman Irshad on 25-ball 20, he kept the momentum going for his team.

It was Rilee Rossouw, who played a gigantic role in helping the Sultans score a big total. He batted brilliantly, scoring 75 off 36 balls with 12 fours and two towering sixes.

David Miller and Kieron Pollard made solid contributions for their team, scoring 23 and 15, respectively.

For Zalmi, Salman Irshad took two wickets, and Sufiyan Muqeem bagged one wicket.

Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and opted to field first against Multan Sultans in the fifth match of the eighth edition of the domestic premium tournament.
