Misbah expresses disappointment over criticism of Babar

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Former Pakistan captain Misbahul Haq expressed his disappointment with the recent speculation surrounding Babar Azam’s captaincy.

Talking to reporters in Lahore, Misbah criticised the way that Babar had been targeted and emphasised the importance of thoroughly assessing situations before making any changes. “No matter who is the captain, a change should only be made after assessing things thoroughly. Decisions should not be taken just for the sake of putting pressure on others,” he said.

The former head coach also pointed out that comparing Babar to Indian batsman Virat Kohli is unjust, as Kohli has much more international cricket experience. Misbah suggested that the two players should only be compared once they have played an equal amount of cricket.

Misbah praised Babar’s consistency and placed him among Pakistan’s greatest batsmen. He also noted that Babar is consistently ranked among the top five players in the world. However, Misbah acknowledged that Babar is not solely responsible for Pakistan’s poor Test performances, and that there are issues with planning and team selection.

Despite the challenges, Babar had a successful 2022, winning the Sir Garfield Sobers ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year Award, being named captain of the ICC ODI Team of the Year 2022, and being included in the ICC Test Team of the Year.
