Asia Cup 2022: Muneeb, Rashid spin Afghanistan to clinical victory against Bangladesh

LAHORE (Web Desk) - Afghanistan have clinched victory against Bangladesh by winning by seven wickets, during the third match of the Asia Cup at Sharjah on Tuesday.

-BANGLADESH’S INNINGS-

Opting to bat after winning the toss, Bangladesh started to feel the pressure from the early stage of their innings, when they were two down for just 13 runs. The magical spell casted by Mujeeb Ur Rehman and Rashid Khan turned out to be ‘nightmare’ for the Bangladesh batters.

There is nothing to talk about the Bangladesh batting lineup, with the exception of some resistance shown by Mosaddek Hossain and seasoned campaigner Mahmudullah. Mosaddek scored unbeaten 48 (31) while Mahmudullah made 25 (27). Skipper Shakib Al Hasan could only manage to score 11 (9), while veteran Mushfiqur perished cheaply for 1 (4). As they managed to score 127-7 in their allotted overs.

With their clinical bowling display, Mujeeb Ur Rehman (3-16 in 4 overs) and Rashid Khan (3-22 in 4 overs) took three wickets each.

-AFGHANISTAN’S INNINGS-

After an excellent display with the bowl, while chasing a total of 128, the Afghan batters were off to a shaky start and lost three wickets on 62. But overall they remain cautious as the duo of Najibullah Zadran and Ibrahim Zadran ensured to reconstruct Afghanistan’s innings and managed to take Afghanistan past the line (chasing 128) as Najibullah scored a quickfire 43 off just 17 deliveries, while Ibrahim scored 42 off 41 balls.

There is nothing special to talk about the Bangladesh bowling attack, as skipper Shakib (1-13 in 4 overs), Mosaddek (1-12 in 2.3 overs) and Saifuddin (!-27 in 2 overs) bagged a wicket each.

-AFGHANISTAN SEAL SUPER FOUR BERTH-

With this win, Afghanistan have undoubtedly managed to qualify to the Super Four stage. However, the other three teams have yet to cement their places in the next stage.
