PSL 2018: Peshawar Zalmi secure win in nail-biting playoff against Quetta Gladiators

(Dunya News) – Peshawar Zalmi became victorious against Quetta Gladiators by just one run in a thrilling playoff that kept the spectators glued to their seats till the very end.

In the thrilling match of the first eliminator held in Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Zalmi scored 157 in 20 overs with Gladiators’ Rahat Ali taking four wickets.

Chasing 158 runs, Gladiators wobbled early on as they lost Asad Shafiq on the very first ball of their innings. Hassan Ali’s bowling gave Zalmi an early breakthrough defining the momentum of the rest of the match.

Despite Anwar Ali’s spectacular performance which featured three sixes in the nail-biting last over, the team could not secure their victory and lost the match to Peshawar Zalmi.




Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and Muhammad Nawaz achieved 35 runs each.

Zalmi’s Hassan Ali, Sameen Gul, Umaid Asif and Wahab Riaz took two wickets each.

Liam Dawson became Man of the Match with his top scoring performance that featured 6 smashing sixes and 4 fours.

Opener for Zalmi, Tamim Iqbal added twenty seven runs.

Rahat Ali’s brilliant four wickets also failed to secure the Gladiators a win in the first playoff in Lahore.

Peshawar Zalmi will face Karachi Kings in the second playoff that is scheduled to be held today (Wednesday) in Lahore.
