PCB's warning ends dispute between players over uneven prize distribution
PCB had issued warning to two senior players.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The warning to two senior players issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has ended the dispute between national cricketers that arose due to distribution of uneven cash prizes.
The junior players, who were provoked by two senior members to not take less cash prizes, have decided to give up their demands after the warning was issued. It has been learnt that the report of ‘all is good’ will be given to the PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan upon his return to Pakistan in two, three days. The players who started this campaign have come under the radar of PCB, and will now be strictly monitored in the future to halt any revolt.
Earlier, some players were reported to leave an event in private shopping mall without even waiting for the group photo after expressing dissatisfaction over captain Sarfraz Ahmed and batsman Fakhar Zaman receiving higher cash prizes than them.
The event was hosted by a renowned shopping mall in the honor of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 triumphant Pakistan team. As soon as the cash prize amounts for cricketers were revealed, some players became disgruntled with their comparatively lower rewards.
Sarfraz was given one kanal plot while Zaman received Rs0.5 million. On the other hand, the rest of the players received Rs0.2 million each which was apparently too low for certain cricketers. The players refused to accept their cash prizes and left the event.
It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed asked to distribute the cash prize equally among all players to avoid any unwanted instance afterwards.
After the incident, PCB cancelled all the gatherings that were to be hosted to celebrate team’s victory. The team was invited to a function that was to be organized by Lahore Region Cricket Association president last Friday, and Rs1.5 crore were to be distributed among the champion squad, but it could not happen due to PCB’s restrictions.
After the things were settled down owing to the warning issued by the board, PCB gave the task to two of its officials to prepare new schedule of events next week after talking to the cricketers.
