WELLINGTON (AFP) - A double century from Shakib Al Hasan and a hundred to Mushfiqur Rahim put Bangladesh in control of the first Test against New Zealand after a record-breaking Friday in Wellington.

At stumps on the second day Bangladesh were 542-7 with Shakib out for 217 and Mushfiqur for 159 in the final session.

Their 359-run stand is an all-time record for Bangladesh and the highest fifth-wicket partnership by any side against New Zealand.

Shakib also set the highest individual score by a Bangladesh player, overtaking Tamim Iqbal’s 206 against Pakistan two years ago.
