Hashim Amla has exploratory surgery on groin, likely to miss rest of 3rd Test against New Zealand.

Key South African batsman Hashim Amla is unlikely to take any further part in the third Test against New Zealand after having emergency surgery on his groin area.The top-order batsman was in extreme discomfort after being struck by a delivery from fast bowler Chris Martin on the opening day of the Test on Friday.He was able to bat on and progressed from 33 to 63 before he was dismissed by Mark Gillespie and then rushed to hospital.Hashim underwent emergency exploratory surgery resulting from blunt trauma sustained to his groin region, team manager Mohammed Moosajee said in a statement on Saturday.He spent the night in hospital and was discharged this morning. The surgeon is satisfied with the outcome and expects Hashim to make a full recovery.However, it is unlikely that he will be able to take further part in the current test match at the Basin Reserve.Weather disruptions restricted play on the first day to 42 overs and further rain delayed the start of the second day for four hours with South Africa resuming at 136-2.
