ISLAMABAD (APP) - Senior Adviser to Energy China and former CPEC Project Director, Dr. Hassan Daud Butt, has said that China has a strong interest in investing in Pakistan’s mineral sector, enhancing capacity building, and promoting advanced technologies, reflecting the long-standing, strong, and strategic partnership between the two countries.

Speaking to APP on Wednesday, Dr Butt said that Pakistan is rich in mineral resources and that through cooperation with China, these resources can be utilised in an efficient, sustainable, and responsible manner.

He noted that China is not only interested in providing investment but also considers human resource training, development of local skills, and the transfer of modern mining technology as key components of bilateral cooperation.

He emphasised that the use of advanced technology would increase productivity in the mineral sector, reduce operational costs, and improve Pakistan’s access to global markets. Stressing the importance of sustainable development, Dr. Butt said that adherence to international construction and operational standards ensures responsible mining practices, with a focus on environmental protection, welfare of local communities, and prudent use of natural resources.

He added that planning and implementation in line with modern international standards would not only drive economic growth but also help minimize negative environmental impacts of mining projects.

Dr. Butt further stated that after cooperation in energy, infrastructure, and industrial sectors under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the mineral sector is emerging as a new and important area of collaboration.

He expressed optimism that joint Pakistan–China projects would create new employment opportunities, boost exports, and provide long-term benefits to the national economy.

He reaffirmed that Pakistan and China will continue to expand their cooperation in the future based on mutual trust, shared interests, and the principles of sustainable development, ensuring that the people of both countries equally benefit from this strategic partnership.
