Nepra approves electricity tariff increase by up to Rs7.12 per unit

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Thursday granted the government's request to raise the basic electricity tariff by up to Rs7.12 per unit. 

This increase will be applied nationwide, including in Karachi, with households consuming up to 200 units a month being exempt from the hike for three months. 

The new tariff structure, as outlined in the notification, will see domestic consumers using between 201 and 300 units a month facing a rise of Rs7.12, bringing the rate to Rs34.26 per unit. 

Consumers using between 301 and 400 units will face an increase of Rs7.02, resulting in a new rate of Rs39.15 per unit. 

For those consuming between 401 and 500 units, the rate will go up by Rs6.12 to Rs41.36 per unit. 

The tariff for consumers using between 501 and 600 units will increase by Rs6.12 to Rs42.78 per unit, and those using between 601 and 700 units will see an increase of Rs6.12 to Rs43.92 per unit. 

For consumers exceeding 700 units a month, the tariff will rise by Rs6.12 to Rs48.84 per unit. 

Lifeline consumers, who use up to 50 units a month, will continue to pay Rs3.95 per unit. Those consuming between 51 and 100 units will maintain a rate of Rs7.74 per unit.
