Price hike mainly witnessed in food items
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Hike in the prices of edibles triggered a 0.2 per cent increase in the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ending June 15, says the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
According to the latest figures, the sugar price jumped by 4.24pc and that of wheat flour by 1.79pc and of fresh milk by 1.08pc among the items included in the weekly survey.
When it comes to the year-on-year comparison, the increase in SPI stood at 34.96pc. It was triggered mainly by the surging prices of cigarettes (124.38pc), tea Lipton (114.93pc), wheat flour (110.08pc), rice basmati broken (79.11pc), rice irri-6/9 (78.11pc), potatoes (67.44pc), bananas (67.33pc), moong (53.41pc), bread (52.36pc), maash (52.32pc) and salt powdered (49.65pc).
However, a decrease was observed in the prices of tomatoes (29.71pc), onions (17.94pc), diesel (3.89pc), and masoor (0.91pc).
The details show that prices of 19 items increased and of 12 decreased while the rates of 20 items remained stable out of the 51 items which are listed on the SPI.
When it comes to the consumption groups, this increase was 0.11per cent, 0.11 per cent, 0.28per cent, 0.29, and 0.20per cent for up to Rs17,732, Rs17,732-22,888, Rs22,889-29,517, Rs29,518-44,175 and above Rs44,175 respectively.
