Cotton export continues amid domestic textile needs

Cotton export is continued in spite of its production being less than domestic industrial needs.

Due to devastation of crops in last year’s floods, import of 40 lakh bales was needed to fulfill the demand of local textile industry. On the other hand, more than 5.20 lakh bales were being exported due to government’s inaction. According to the figures of Pakistan Ginning Association, textile mills have imported up to 8 lakh bales of cotton.
