Bhasha Dam important for Pakistans water, electricity needs: US

The US has assured to continue cooperation with Pakistan for construction of Diamir Bhasha Dam.

A delegation of US embassy in Pakistan has said that Bhasha Dam was imperative for Pakistan’s water, and cheap electricity needs.During a meeting with Federal Minister for Water and Power, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, a three-member delegation assured that the US was quite interested in providing financial assistance to Pakistan in the project.The delegation said that past meetings with Pakistan as quite useful, helpful; and said that a meeting between WAPDA authorities and the American team was also on the anvil.Earlier Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar applauded American assistance to Pakistan in power and energy sector, which was bringing relief to power sector.The federal minister also requested the American government to forward financial assistance to Pakistan, alongwith other donors and the Asian Developmental Bank (ADB), since the project was quite imminent, and was backbone of financial, economic development of Pakistan.Ahmad Mukhtar also offered an investment opportunity to America in wind energy program of Pakistan.
