BBC veteran Robert Robinson dies after long illness

Veteran broadcaster and journalist Robert Robinson has died in hospital at the age of 83.

The BBC presenter, whose career spanned five decades, passed away at St Marys Hospital in Paddington after a period of ill health.He is credited with pioneering a searching interview style on Radio 4s Today programme while also fronted popular game shows including Ask the Family, Call My Bluff.After beginning his career television and film critic, writing for papers including The Sunday Telegraph, Mr Robinson started working as a journalist on television in 1955. He later went on to chair the talk show Stop the Week.Following his death, his daughter, Susie Robinson, told the BBC: He had a very long, productive and successful life and well all miss him terribly.Mr Robinson was born in Liverpool and went on to study at Oxford University where he met his wife of more than 40 years, the actress Josee Richard.He began his career in magazines and newspapers, before moving into broadcasting and in 1974 was named Radio Personality of the Year following his tenure on the Today programme.
