Summary The new platform has begun sharing messages promoting democracy, business development and economic growth, amid youth protests and growing criticism of the Indian government
NEW DELHI (Web Desk) - A new satirical platform called the ‘Makhi Janta Party’ has emerged on social media in India, following the appearance of the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’, which gained attention for criticising the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The new platform has begun sharing messages promoting democracy, business development and economic growth, amid youth protests and growing criticism of the Indian government.
An Instagram account for the Makhi Janta Party has appeared in a similar style to its predecessor, using a fly emoji to accompany posts advocating democratic values, entrepreneurship and economic improvement.
According to media reports, the platform’s emergence followed sarcastic remarks by the chief justice of India’s Supreme Court during a hearing concerning protests organised by the Cockroach Janta Party and restrictions on demonstrations in New Delhi.
During the hearing, a three-member bench led by the chief justice reportedly advised the central government and Delhi Police against adopting an excessively harsh approach towards protesters, comparing such a response to using a hammer to kill a fly.
The Makhi Janta Party’s Instagram account appeared the following day, describing itself as a political movement “of the youth, by the youth and for the youth”.
In one post, the platform questioned whether citizens in a democracy should be labelled “cockroaches” one day and “flies” the next.
The account has attracted significant attention, reportedly surpassing 111,000 followers within its first day, according to available information.
Meanwhile, protests continue in India over electoral rolls. Opposition parties and young people associated with Gen Z have participated in demonstrations in New Delhi and other locations, including Jantar Mantar.
