NAJAF (Dunya News) - Iraq’s Najaf International Airport has suspended all flights to and from Iran indefinitely, the airport administration said.

Airlines will be notified once new instructions are received regarding the resumption of flights, the administration said.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation said Baghdad International Airport had also imposed a ban on flights operated by Iranian airlines.
The suspension of flights between Najaf and Iran is expected to disrupt the movement of pilgrims travelling between the two countries, particularly those visiting religious sites in Iraq.
Earlier, Turkmenistan had denied an Iranian aircraft permission to enter its airspace, forcing the flight to return to Tehran.

Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization said the aircraft was diverted back to Tehran and landed at Imam Khomeini International Airport.
Majid Akhavan, a spokesperson for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, confirmed the incident.
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that all flights operated by Iranian airlines to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have also been cancelled.
Iranian officials said the UAE had not yet formally notified Tehran about the suspension of flights.
