MUSCATINE, Iowa (Reuters) – Six people were killed in a series of shootings across multiple locations in Muscatine, Iowa, before the suspected gunman died by suicide, according to police.
Authorities said an initial investigation suggests the violence stemmed from a domestic dispute. The suspect was identified as 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland, a resident of Muscatine, and investigators believe the victims were members of his family.
Police said officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly after noon on Monday. Upon arriving at a residence, they discovered four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
As the investigation expanded, detectives discovered another man dead from an apparent gunshot wound at a separate residence. Officers later located a sixth victim at a business establishment, where the individual was also found dead from an apparent gunshot injury.
Authorities have not yet released the identities or ages of the victims as the investigation remains ongoing.
