Summary Russia and Afghanistan signed a military cooperation agreement in Moscow, signaling closer defense ties amid expanding bilateral relations.
MOSCOW (Shahid G) - Russia and Afghanistan have signed a military and technical cooperation agreement in a move being described as a significant development in relations between the two countries.
The agreement was signed during the first International Security Forum held in the Moscow region. The forum took place from May 26 to May 29 under the patronage of Russia’s Security Council.
According to reports, the agreement is aimed at expanding cooperation between Moscow and Kabul in defense and technical sectors. However, the detailed provisions of the deal have not yet been made public.
The International Security Forum brought together senior security and defense officials from various countries. Meetings were also held on the sidelines of the event under regional cooperation platforms including BRICS, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Russia-ASEAN, and Russia-Central Asia.
The forum featured roundtable discussions, debates, strategic sessions, and specialized exhibitions focused on security-related issues.
Experts say the agreement reflects growing ties between Moscow and Kabul since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan and could pave the way for broader defense and security cooperation in the future.
Russian officials have not yet clarified whether the agreement includes arms supplies, military training programs, or joint defense projects.
