(Web Desk) – Andrew Cuomo, once one of the most powerful figures in American politics, is attempting a remarkable comeback – this time as an independent candidate for New York City mayor.

The 67-year-old former governor, who resigned in 2021 amid sexual harassment allegations, has re-entered the spotlight pitching experience and stability to voters fatigued by political turbulence.

Running without a party label, Cuomo has positioned himself as the pragmatic alternative to Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani and Republican stalwart Curtis Sliwa. His campaign slogan, “Competence You Can Count On,” draws on a decade of executive experience leading New York through crises including Hurricane Sandy and the early COVID-19 pandemic.

Cuomo’s path back to power is steep but not impossible. His support among moderates and disaffected Democrats has grown, particularly after President Donald Trump unexpectedly endorsed him on the eve of the election, calling him “a Democrat with a record of success.” The move stunned both parties and drew sharp rebukes from Mamdani’s camp.

Despite the endorsements, Cuomo remains dogged by his past. A state investigation in 2021 concluded that he had sexually harassed 11 women. Cuomo denied the claims, calling them politically motivated, though the scandal forced his resignation after a decade in office. No criminal charges were brought, and he has since called his ousting a “coup of the cancel culture.”

Cuomo’s campaign has leaned heavily on managerial experience and promises of economic recovery, lower property taxes, and infrastructure expansion. Backed by figures like Michael Bloomberg, he has courted centrists, union voters, and New Yorkers weary of ideological extremes.

For Cuomo, the mayoral race is more than an election – it’s a bid for personal redemption and political relevance in a city that once turned its back on him.
