The 26-year-old Isar Muhammad was tied to a pole before severe torture

NEW DELHI (Web Desk) - A mentally-challenged young Muslim was brutally beaten to death by a group of Hindu fanatics for allegedly "stealing food from a temple" in India's capital New Delhi.

Isar Muhammad was killed after brutal torture for allegedly stealing some prasad (food offerings) and INR20 from a pile of offerings given to Hindu gods at a temporary installation during celebration. The 26-year-old was tied to a pole before severe torture.

According to the local police, Isar was unable to communicate with the temple’s administration due to his mental condition.

The horrible video went viral on social media in which five men were seen thrashing Isar.

The family said he was tortured for hours and left to die on the street. Isar was found on the street with wounds and blood all over his body. He died moments after being brought home by a neighbour, the local media reported.

Umrana Muhammad, the sister of Isar, said he was cold like a dead body when brought back home.

A police official claimed that there was no religious motivation involved in the crime. However, seven individuals were detained on charges of murder in connection with the incident.

“The suspects claimed that they caught Isar lurking around the area around 5am and thought that he was a thief,” Joy N Tirkey, a top police official said.

He couldn’t answer their questions due to his mental health condition. He was later tied with an electric pole and was thrashed badly.

The autopsy report revealed blunt-force injuries to his head, back, arms, and legs, with "shock and haemorrhage" as the cause of death.
