Chetan had an argument with ASI Meena when he refused him a leave

(Web Desk) – Railway cop Chetan Singh who shot dead his senior and three passengers on Monday, said he went berserk when his officer refused him permission to leave as he was feeling unwell.

Indian media on Wednesday quoted one of his colleagues as saying that Chetan, 33, who was on duty on a Jaipur-Mumbai train, had told his colleagues hours before the incident he was not well.

He wanted to get off the train, but was told to complete his shift. This made him furious and sparked an altercation, during which he allegedly tried to choke one of his colleagues.

Ghanshyam Acharya, a constable with Railway Protection Force who was on duty on the superfast train on Sunday night with Chetan and Assistant Sub-Inspector Tikaram Meena, narrated to the police the events that led to the shocking incident that left Mr Meena and three others dead.

Acharya told police that Chetan had an argument with ASI Meena when the latter refused him a leave. Later, the accused asked him to give him his weapon but he refused.

However, the enraged Chetan got his own gun and reportedly shot ASI Meena. Later, he went to another compartment and shot dead three passenger. Two of the dead have been identified as Ajgar Abbas Shaikh, 48, and Abdul Kadarbhai Mohammed Hussain Bhanpurwala, 62.

Police have arrested Chetan and are investigating.
