LONDON/MECCA (Reuters) - Eight British cyclists pedalled their way from London to Medina to perform the Hajj pilgrimage - and raise money along the way.

The ride dubbed ‘Tour de Hajj’ covered 4,000 miles, across 17 countries in 60 days.

The cyclists were raising money for the Penny Appeal fund, which aims to help to build vital infrastructure, like wells, schools and mosques, in villages in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Uganda.

With the goal of ultimately raising half a million pounds, the cyclists had so far collected £50,000 pounds upon reaching Medina.
