IOK: Himalayan brown bear pelted with stones, thrown off ridge in Kargil

Dunya News

A helpless brown bear fell down a cliff after it was pelted with stones by the locals

(Web Desk) – The fight for turf between the humans and the wild, took an ugly turn when a shocking video of a Himalayan brown bear being pelted by the locals in Indian occupied Kashmir, tumbling down a cliff emerged on social media.

The Himalayan brown bear is omnivorous and poses no threat whatsoever to humans, it eats grasses, roots, plants, insects, small mammals, fruits and berries. Apart from this it also preys on large mammals, such as sheep and goats.

But the lack of trust and the fear of the unknown between the humans and the wild beast, led to a horrific display of survival of the fittest. When a helpless brown bear was seen in a video trying to escape death, attempting to move up the cliff, while locals were seen pelting it with stones, cheering on the fall of the poor creature, which could be seen loosing balance and tumbling down the mountain into the river.

The dilemma at hand is of co-existence and the way humans are taking over the wild habitat and then killing them in the process of safeguarding their own flesh and blood and livestock in the process.

The video caught the eye of Mehbooba Mufti, who raised a very potent question of why humans invade the wild creature’s habitat in the first place.

‘Heartbreaking & inhuman. Why invade their habitat in the first place?

After her tweet a number of people raised their concern over the bizarre treatment of the Himalayan bear.
