Explosion at Chinese chemical plant kills six, injures 30

Web Desk (Reuters) - An explosion at a chemical plant rocked an industrial park in China on Thursday (March 21) afternoon, killing six people and injuring 30 people, officials said.
The blast, in the Chinese eastern city of Yancheng, Jiangsu province, happened at 2:48 p.m. local time (0648 GMT) and blew out the windows of nearby houses. State television channel CCTV also showed visuals of dark smoke billowing and fires burning.
People at the site said there were workers trapped in other factory buildings close to the blast-hit factory. Workers were seen running out of the factory building covered in blood, according to the official Xinhua news agency.
Among the injured were children at a kindergarten near the industrial park, state media said.
Public anger over safety standards has grown in China over industrial accidents ranging from mining disasters to factory fires that have marred three decades of swift economic growth.
