(Web Desk) - Selfie fad has become more and more destructive, with people in pursuit of a perfect picture have either lost their lives or have caused serious damages.

One woman in pursuit of a selfie has caused $200,000 worth of damage.

This expensive selfie occurred in an exhibition at Los Angeles 14th Factory. The woman is seen on CCTV footage as she tries to take a selfie by ducking down against a pillar with the exhibits displayed. As she loses her balance, she stumbles against the pillar setting it in a perfect domino effect bringing down at least a row of 11 columns holding a unique crown crafted out of different materials.

After the blunder, the woman stands up in panic and tries to arrange the pillars back, while a staff member is seen in dismay storming out of the room, according to BBC.

The incident happened two weeks ago in a 14,000 sq metre installation, and caused irreparable damage to some of the 12 crown-like sculptures, which were made from a variety of different materials, including precious metals, marble, wood, nylon and scrap metal, according to The Guardian.

Gloria Yu, one of the artists involved in the exhibition, told art and culture site Hyperallergic: “Three sculptures were permanently damaged and others to varying degrees. The approximate cost of damage is $200,000.”



 

In the name of a selfie people have destroyed expensive or valuable artworks while trying to capture a picture of them next to it.

A Brazilian tourist damaged a statue of the Archangel Saint Michael at Portugal’s National Musem of Ancient Art. The man backed into the statue shattering it into a grave damage, there was “great silence” in the room when that happened. However, the damage was reversible.
Another blunder selfie happened when a student in Milan, Italy tried to climb on a 19th century Milanese, statue for a picture. Sadly, the statue was amputated by the calamity of the selfie.



An 18th Century Hercules marble statue in Cermona, Italy, lost his crown to enthusiastic tourists who were trying to take a picture. The two people faced charges for the damage of the art which is more than 300 years old. The iconic emblem of the city is the statue represents the mythological person holding the emblem of the city, that included the crown.



Another grievous sight was the damaged statue of the King Sebastian of Portugal, which was toppled over at Lisbon’s Rossio train station. A young 24 year old man reportedly knocked it over while climbing on it to take a picture. He was later apprehended by the police.
