Americans donate USD 800,000 for rebuilding mosque burned down

Summary Americans donated 800,000 dollars within just one day to rebuild the mosque burned down

VICTORIA, Texas: (web Desk) – The mosque burned down two days ago in by reasons not determined yet will now be rebuilt as it received $800,000 within only one day in donations from Americans.

The Islamic Center of Victoria had caught fire around two days ago late in the night. A clerk working nearby had spotted the flames at the center and had immediately informed the local authorities.

The mosque had been a target of hatred in the past as well, several years ago. Moreover, it was the victim of a burglary as well last week.



Two days back, it had been burned down by the fire. However, a fundraising campaign had been set up on Sunday in order to rebuild the mosque. The response was so overwhelming that within just one day almost $850,000 had been collected. Around 18,000 people donated all these funds.

The campaign on GoFundMe had been set up by Omar Rachid. “Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the tremendous support we’ve received. The outpouring of love, kind words, hugs, helping hands and the financial contributions are examples of the true American spirit”, he said.

The president of Islamic Center, Shahid Hashmi, told al-Jazeera that he was grateful to all the people who had supported them with the donations.
