BEIJING (AFP) - Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi will take part in negotiations on Iran s nuclear programme in Vienna, the government confirmed Thursday, as the latest round of talks aimed at a breakthrough dragged into a sixth day.
"China pays much attention to moving forward the negotiation on the Iranian nuclear issue," foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said in a statement, adding that Wang would attend a meeting of foreign ministers from Iran and other negotiating countries in Vienna on Thursday.
"China is willing to work tirelessly with parties concerned to reach a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue that is equitable, balanced and win-win to all at an early date," Hua added.
China is a member of the P5+1 powers -- which also include the United States, Russia, Britain, France and Germany -- that are seeking to finalise a long-sought accord aimed at putting a nuclear bomb beyond Iran s reach, in return for lifting sanctions against the Islamic republic.
