LONDON (AP) - Queen Elizabeth II and Britain s prime minister are joining veterans in a service to commemorate the end of Britain s combat operations in Afghanistan.
Prince William, his pregnant wife Kate, and Prince Harry who served two tours during the conflict will also attend the ceremony to remember the war dead at London s St. Paul s Cathedral.
Britain was part of a U.S.-led coalition that fought in Afghanistan and toppled the Taliban in 2001. Almost 150,000 Britons served in the conflict, and 453 died.
Friday s service will be followed by a military parade through central London, while fighter jets and helicopters will salute from the air.
Britain formally ended its 13-year campaign in Afghanistan in October, when the last British troops were airlifted from Helmand province.
