Washington reiterated its desire for the success of long lasting peace talks between Israel and Palestine.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the US Middle East envoy George Mitchell discussed indirect peace talks which a minister had already said were doomed to fail.But no announcements were made and Israeli officials have said the two are to meet again.The three-hour meeting in Jerusalem was described as good and productive by the US state department.Mitchell would also meet the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas during this week. Washington has sought to revive talks on an indirect format, which would include Mitchell shuttling between the sides, to sidestep differences over Jewish settlements built in occupied land, which has delayed a resumption of negotiations for months.
