Pak should decide whom to talk to, govt or separatists: Jaitley

Summary Pak should reconsider the question who they want to speak as India wants to normalize the relation.

NEW DELHI (Web Desk) - The Modi government on Wednesday asked Pakistan to choose whether it wants to talk to the Indian government or those who want to break India, in yet another signal that the bilateral composite dialogue process is not going to be resumed anytime soon.

"We create the environment, we fix up a dialogue at the level of foreign secretaries, our foreign secretary is to visit Pakistan, and literally a few hours before that they invite the (Kashmiri) separatists for a dialogue to their high commission (in New Delhi)," said defence minister Arun Jaitley.

"So, I think a new red-line has to be drawn in Pakistan to reconsider the question who they want to speak to? Do they want to speak to the government of India or they want to speak to those who want to break India? Unless Pakistan makes the conscious choice, a dialogue with Pakistan will not be possible," he added.

India had called off the slated foreign secretary-level talks with Pakistan in August after the Pakistani envoy here met the separatists on the eve of the dialogue. This was soon followed by the still continuing exchange of heavy fire along both the line of control as well as the international border in J&K between the two armies.

Jaitley said the consequences of Pakistan s "misadventures" like firing on civilian populations along the border "would be unaffordable" for it. "That s not an environment for a dialogue. India would like to normalise the relationship. But whether Pakistan wants to normalize the relationship depends on Pakistan," he said.
