Canada puts airlines, airports on high alert

Canada has put its airlines and airports on high alert after receiving threat warnings from intelligence sources in the wake of a failed Christmas US jet bombing.Transport Minister John Baird told reporters the medium level threats did not point to an imminent attack. The warning was issued after receiving intelligence reports suggested that 20 Yemeni-trained terrorists were trying to get into Canada in order to then sneak into the United States.Airlines and airports were asked on Saturday to remain alert and adhere to tough new passenger screening rules adopted after a young Nigerian tried to set off a bomb on a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit last month.
