Palestinian president says no deal yet on Israels Shalit

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says there is no deal yet for release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit and new EU proposal on future status of Jerusalem is a step back from Swedish proposal. Abbas was speaking after talks with President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, which has been seeking to mediate to secure the release of Gilad Shalit in exchange for Israel's freeing of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.The two sides have stopped at the details concerning the numbers and nature of people to be released. However, I can tell you that for now there is no deal, Abbas told reporters.Abbas also said that a plan to take the issue of declaring a Palestinian state, regardless of whether stalled peace talks with Israel resumed, to the UN Security Council had to be clarified by the Arab League and then taken to the international community first.
