Fidel Castro marks his 83rd birthday - with the world still wondering just how much power the former Cuban president still wields. He was expected to celebrate his birthday in private. No official celebrations were scheduled, but Cuban workers and other groups planned small celebrations in a park where Castros large portrait was also unveiled. Castro led the 1959 revolution that overthrew President Batista and ran the country for 49 years before he underwent emergency surgery in July 2006.
