Summary A group of 18 wild elephants were found, in Zhengdong Town of China's Yunnan Province.

Informed by witnesses, staff of Jiangcheng County Forest Bureau and Forest Public Security Bureau rushed to the site and st arted searching. They succeeded to find the elephants in a quite flat jungle at the top of Maofei Mountain.Witnesses said that they showed up for the first time Thursday.After careful searching in these two days, our joint inspection team finally found the elephants at the top of Maofei Mountain. The number of them may reach 18, said Xu kai, director of Jiangcheng County Forest Bureau. Jiangcheng County is located at the junction where China, Laos and Vietnam meet, hailed as town linking three countries.Over the years, environment in Jiangcheng has been much improved since the local residents have done a lot to protect vegetation. The local villagers believed this was the main factor attracting these elephants.I have lived here for 40 years and this is the first time to see elephants showing up in Zhengdong. It indicates that our environment is well protected, so elephants come here. Were glad for that, said Fan Yongxin, a local villager.
