LODZ (Reuters) - Havana, a two-month-old French bulldog has started a career as a therapy dog at a Polish hospice for terminally ill and severely disabled children.
Ignas, a five-month old baby boy suffering from a debilitating neurological disorder often shares his cot with Havana whose presence soothes the infant and helps him fall asleep.
Havana brings out shrieks of joy, excitement and laughter among the little patients and their carers according to staff at the hospice.
Piotrus, a five-year old patient of the facility, was "ecstatic" when he first saw Havana, said Tisa-Zawrocka-Kwiatkowska, the founder of Gajusz Foundation which runs the hospice.
Havana will undergo full training to become a certified therapy dog once she reaches the age of one.
For now, she spends most of her time sleeping and playing with all the patients.
