Museum in Italy holds over 8000 corpses, skeletons

Burials in the area stopped after which the space is now a museum run by monks.

SICILY (Web Desk) – The Capuchin Catacombs in Italy hold 8,000 and around 1,252 mummies and is open to the public, Daily Mail reported.



In 1599, monks had mummified a priest called Silvestro of Gubbio while placing him into the catacombs.



However, in 1920s, burials in the area stopped after which the space is now a museum run by monks.




Tourists are banned from snapping images of the area, as they trail around the Pictures from inside the tombs show the variation of the rates of decomposition of the mummies.



Some still had teeth, hair and skin, while other seems to be crumbling to pieces.
