Skrillex dubstep music to protect against dengue fever
The yellow fever mosquito are mostly found tropical areas and has white markings on its legs
(Web Desk) - Sonny John Moore who goes by the name Skrillex, may have come up with a cure against mosquitos causing dengue fever, zika virus and yellow fever.
Researchers have found that his tracks Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites in 2010 peaking at number 77 on the UK s streaming chart, have a mix of very high and very low frequencies of electronic music that could effectively repel the insects.
The scientists played the electronic music to yellow fever mosquitoes (aedes aegypti) to investigate the effects and found quite fascinating results.
‘Sound and its reception are crucial for reproduction, survival, and population maintenance of many animals. The occurrence of blood feeding activity was lower when music was being played,’ they said.
The scientists added, ‘The observation that such music can delay host attack, reduce blood feeding and disrupt mating provides new avenues for the development of music-based personal protective and control measures against Aedes-borne diseases.’
