Hundreds of dogs and their owners take part in Philippines fun run
Dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds ran alongside their owners.
(Reuters) - Around a thousand dogs and their owners took part in an annual fun run in Manila on Saturday (March 16).
Despite rain, dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds -- from Chihuahuas to Siberian Huskies -- ran alongside their owners in races ranging from 1.5 kilometers to 5 kilometers long depending on the size of the breed.
Dog owners like Daryl Supan, who runs a Facebook group for Chihuahua owners, said he brought his pets to force them to exercise , which both of them seldom do, while others like Alex Titong, a legal aid, said he wanted his reclusive Siberian Huskies to socialize with other dogs.
A ticket to participate for both owner and their pet costs around 25 USD and a part of the proceeds were donated to local dog and cat shelter Philippines Animal Welfare Society.
A painter and his mixed Shih Tzu won the five kilometer race clocking in at just around 18 minutes.
