A number of countries on the planet are nuclear powers and maintain the technology as deterrent. They frequently test their latest warfare weapons too.
The United Nations (UN) had placed sanctions on North Korea in September, 2017, after the country carried out recent nuclear tests. Iran had also suffered similar sanctions in relation to its nuclear programme during 2010.
In the wake of such nuclear threats, the risk of World War 3 cannot be neglected. Following is the list of countries that are considered safest to live in if a war between states erupts.
10. Ireland
The European country ranks 10 in Global Peace Index 2017. Ireland is mostly neutral in international affairs in UN and seldom takes sides. It is thought that Ireland will not take sides even if the WW3 happens.
9. Switzerland
Switzerland is 9th in Global Peace Index 2017. It has a history of being military neutral and known for 1815 Treaty of Paris. It is considered an ideal place to hide in any event of nuclear because of the peace and fortified mountains against foreign invasion.
8. Slovenia
Slovenia ranks seventh in Global Peace Index 2017. It has self-sustainable energy resources through the hydroelectric, thermal and solar projects. It constantly discourages the use of nuclear weapons and believes in peaceful ties with other states. The country had also managed to defy participation in the first two World Wars.
7. Fiji
Geographically isolated Fiji keeps out of global conflicts and known to present neutral stance whenever issues are highlighted. It is the seventh most peaceful country in this ranking.
6. Denmark
Ranking fifth in Global Peace Index 2017, Denmark is a member of NATO but never encourages warfare between states. The country has never supported building up of nuclear programmes as response to arch-rivals.
5. Austria
Fourth in Global Peace Index 2017, Austria maintains neutral stance over global conflicts. It has a peaceful society and remains less active in militarisation.
4. Portugal
Third in Global Peace Index 2017, it is the oasis of stability, according to Politico. The country has a score of 1.258 in the peace ranking and is one of the top ten most peaceful states.
3. New Zealand
New Zealand is the second most peaceful country in the world, according to Global Peace Index 2017. It is on the Australian continent, far away from big nuclear powers like the US, Russia or North Korea. It is a small and less populated country where no conflicts of worldly states occur in routine.
2. Canada
Canada has proved to be the global leader when it comes to maintaining peace and being less vocal against other states. Eighth in Global Peace Index 2017, it has a score of 1.371 in the ranking. It avoids international conflict despite being close to the US. It has no interest in waging nuclear threats.
1. Iceland
With 1.111 score on Global Peace Index 2017, Iceland tops the ranking and is the safest country to live in if an event of nuclear war occurs. It is away from the nuclear powers and their animosity towards each other. It has low population and all the sustainable energy resources required to remain stable in the time to come.
It should be mentioned that arch-rivals India and Pakistan are on 137 and 152 respectively.
