Meta introduces 'Write with AI' Feature"
(Web Desk ) - Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is reportedly testing a cross-posting feature that would enable Facebook users to simultaneously share content on both Facebook and Threads.
This feature, currently in a limited iOS test excluding the EU, mirrors the functionality already available for cross-posting from Facebook to Instagram. According to a Meta representative, users will be able to share text and link posts from Facebook to Threads.
This move is seen as a potential boon for content creators, streamlining the process of sharing multimedia and text updates across platforms. Additionally, it strengthens Threads' integration into Meta's broader app ecosystem, potentially giving the Threads app a significant boost if the feature is expanded.
Threads has previously experimented with cross-posting, leading to user dissatisfaction when posts were automatically shared on Facebook and Instagram. This caused concerns as users often engage with different audiences on these platforms compared to Threads.
Users typically connect with family and friends on Facebook and Instagram while using Threads for a more public or professional persona, discussing work or political interests similar to how they use Twitter.
Meta addressed this issue by introducing an option for users to disable automatic sharing by default, which alleviated the backlash.
Beyond cross-posting, Facebook is exploring new features. A user, Grujicic also shared an image on LinkedIn showcasing a trial of a "Write with AI" writing assistant designed to assist users in crafting their posts.
Meta's family of apps already boasts an extensive user base of 3.98 billion, and even a small percentage adopting the cross-posting feature could substantially increase content on Threads.
In 2021, Facebook introduced the ability to cross-post to Instagram, building on the earlier option to cross-post Stories between the two platforms. Threads, launched last summer as a Twitter/Clubhouse competitor, rapidly gained traction by leveraging Meta's existing social networks.
New Threads users were automatically connected with their Instagram contacts, propelling the platform to over 100 million users within five days and achieving a notable share of the weekly active user base of other social media giants.
As of Meta's recent quarter report, Threads boasts over 130 million monthly active users, partly due to strategic promotion within the main feeds of Facebook and Instagram.
