5G network to cover urban areas in China by 2020

China (Reuters) - China will be fully covered by 5G network in urban area by 2020, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Supporting a healthy growth of telecommunications, China’s software and info tech industries have seen 15 percent growth in revenues this year from a year ago, 20 percent growth for telecom services and 20 percent gain for the internet sector. Overall, China has opened 126,000 5G base stations by December.
"By December, China has had 126,000 base stations for 5G network, facilitating hundreds of applications in transportation, healthcare and education. Meanwhile, China has increased its mobile network speed and cut the data fees ahead of schedule," Miao Wei, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, said at a working conference on Monday.
The number will keep growing to reach the goal of 5G network coverage in all prefecture-level cities across the country by the end of 2020, according to the ministry.
