GUANGDONG (Reuters) - Various newly-designed robots were highlighted at the 10th International Humanoid Robot Olympic Competition, which kicked off in Zhaoqing City of South China’s Guangdong Province.

The robots were designed by more than 40 teams from 20 universities, showing the latest innovative achievements that have been made in the robotics sector.

Moreover, Chinese cultural elements, such as Thousand-hand Guanyin dancing, Foshan Wing Chun boxing performances, and Tai Chi Broadsword, added mystery to the robots during the event, which mesmerize visitors a lot.

"We’ve added some traditional elements such as Wing Chun boxing, lion dance and lion drumming into the robot performances to show the charm of Foshan, the hometown of martial arts," said Li Jianhao, a participant from Foshan University.

At the opening ceremony of the event, the robots displayed a series of complex movements and creative performances, representing the highest standards in domestic humanoid robot design, dazzling amazed visitors in the process.

"We encourage students to develop their abilities in all respects. They should not just learn techniques hard, but also improve their hands-on abilities, to boost the development of design innovation," said Huang Hong, professor with Beijing Institute of Technology.
