Family sold everything they owned and exchanged it with bitcoin to live a quiet, minimalist lifestyle

SOFIA (Reuters) - A family of five who traded all of their possessions for bitcoin and decided to live solely on it, began their three-year world tour on Tuesday (July 16) with the mission to educate people about cryptocurrency.

Dutchman Didi Taihuttu, his wife Romaine and their three daughters will travel the world in a Bitcoin branded camper van, visiting 250 cities in 50 countries on five continents.

Didi and Romaine said they sold everything they owned two years ago, including their house, two companies, cars, motorcycles and 70 pairs of shoes and exchanged all the earnings for bitcoin in order to live a quiet and minimalist lifestyle, home-school their three daughters, and support themselves by trading cryptocurrencies.

Now the family have been sponsored by the NDJ Investment Group to tour the globe with their  sharing is caring  mission, where they plan to run a series of events to educate the poor and the unprivileged about cryptocurrency, but also to change common preconception about the bitcoin community.

"All of the revenue we will be making out of this we will start to donate to charity or do impact investments into charity - to really change the mindset in the bitcoin and Blockchain world from  Lambo and mooning  to  sharing is caring ," Didi said, referring to crypto currency industry slang --  Lambo  is short for  Lamborghini  and the  to the moon  expression is used to describe rapid increase in a cryptocurrency s value.

After collecting the sponsored camper van, the Taihuttu family visited one of the NDJ s facilities in Sofia where the girls saw for the first time how bitcoin is mined.

While Romaine warns this nomadic lifestyle is not for everybody, their three daughters say their peers are jealous that they don t go to school and often ask about how much bitcoin their family has.

"I don t even know myself because daddy won t tell me how much we have," said one of Taihuttu s daughters, Joli.

After leaving Bulgaria, the  Bitcoin Family  will head to events in Turkey, Switzerland and Spain. Next they are planning to visit countries in Asia, Oceania, and Africa. They also plan to travel the Che Guevara route in South America before heading to the U.S.
