'The Ruet' review: Science overhauls moon sighting predictions with real time information
App displays various moon phases for given month and other real-time information about the moon.

"The Ruet" is a utility and information application related to moon and sighting of moon in Pakistan by Ministry of Science and Technology as stated on Google Play.
App displays various moon phases for given month and other real-time information about the moon.
Main features in this application:
- Current phase and age of the moon.
- Islamic Hijri Calendar.
- Setting location manually to any coordinates in Pakistan.
- New moon details by Islamic months.
- Moon phases calendar.
- Moon, Sun and all major planets positions on the interactive sky simulation.

Permissions required to run this application:
- Internet and network access permission.
- Location (precise GPS and network-based location): needed for precise calculations of moon and sun position.
The Ruet is a quite informative and handy application to receive the start the beginning of each Islamic month with respect to Muharram 1440. Users can receive real time information about the moonsighting. The Ruet covers the whole geographical landscape of the Pakistan to make moon sighting information easy for precise dates for Holy fests and months like Eid and Ramadan etc.
Users appreciated the app that provides accurate date on a user friendly interface by claiming to cross check the data by personally comparing to the situation of real moon to information displayed on app.
Earlier, Fawad Chaudhry had mentioned that a number of departments have collaborated, with experts critically involved in the matter, for developing the moonsighting website and calendar from 2019 to 2024.
“In my opinion, the Ruet-Hilal Committee is no longer required [for moon-sighting] in the country,” he had said.
“The application was prepared with feedback from experts of the Meteorological Department and Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco),” he said, adding that the application would be available on the Google play store.
“Through this application, moon’s existence over eight strategic locations would be mapped.” He had also declared that the month of August would be considered as the month of Science and Technology..
